The Oil and Gas High Performance Computing (HPC) Conference, hosted annually at Rice University, is the premier meeting place for discussion of challenges and opportunities around high performance computing, information technology, and computational science and engineering. The Program Committee is pleased to invite you to participate in the 2016 conference (9th in the series) and we encourage you to submit a technical abstract(s) to be considered for the conference program. The conference offers ample opportunities to attend talks, engage in networking and technical conversation, and talk with students about research and employment opportunities. To accommodate growth in the number of abstracts accepted, the conference is organized with keynotes and thematically organized parallel tracks. In 2015 the themes of the parallel tracks were: Coarse-grained Algorithms; Facilities, Infrastructure & Data I and II; Fine-grained Seismic Algorithms; and Reservoir/Production. The technical themes for the 2016 conference sessions will be determined by the Program Committee based on the diversity and strengths of abstracts received and accepted. The 2016 conference will again feature student posters on display throughout the conference. A separate call for student posters will be forthcoming. As in 2015 the Program Committee will determine, based on the abstract submissions, if there will be a Disruptive Technology track.

High-end computing, computational science and engineering, and information technology continue to stand out across the Oil and Gas Industry as critical business enablers with relatively well-understood return on investment. However, challenges are mounting around a rapidly changing technology landscape. These industry wide component challenges are accelerating the need for investments in people (workforce), algorithm development, and software innovations in order to support continued ROI and performance scalability. In light of these challenges and opportunities we invite authors to submit abstracts in the following areas:

  • Big Data applications in oil & gas
  • Making Exascale software/hardware a reality for Oil & Gas
  • Distributed data management
  • Data visualization/distributed visualization/remote visualization
  • High performance i/o and file systems
  • Programming models and examples for heterogeneous/hybrid system architectures
  • Parallel software development and tools
  • Algorithms and scalability
  • HPC facilities and infrastructure scaling
  • Clouds for scale-up and scale-out technical computingCurriculum, education and training – what skill set does the industry need moving forward?

We are looking for abstracts that are directly applicable to the needs of the Oil and Gas industry. We hope to attract the broadest possible set of abstracts, and are open to submissions beyond the topics listed above. Abstracts that come across to the program committee as marketing will be rejected without review. In cases where you think a marketing message may be a concern, we strongly encourage you to partner with a customer and include users and relevant use-cases.

Abstracts will be handled electronically through the conference website.  Please note, you will have the option of submitting a pdf version of the abstract.  The abstract should be no more than 2 pages text and 4 pages with numerical figures included, with 1″ margins and 11pt or 12pt font.

Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in submitting an abstract or attending the 2016 Oil & Gas HPC Conference.
